University & Academic Advising

The university application process has become quite challenging over the last few decades and students/parents can sometimes feel overwhelmed as it requires immense preparation.

At ISE, our experienced university and careers counsellor is invested in making the experience less daunting and a more exciting experience for all involved. While formal university advising begins in Grade 11 with seminar sessions, the actual process begins in Grade 9 with regular academic and career advisement. As an international school, we are well versed of the varying needs of students applying to different countries and are able to ensure their academic and university preparation provides students with the tools necessary to reach their individual goals.

Our university advisement program includes one-to-one sessions with the counsellor, sessions with counsellor and family, group seminar sessions detailing specifics of applications around the globe, as well as access to numerous university planning resources. ISE hosts visits from universities around the world.

We are proud of the destinations our graduates choose, which include some of the top universities in North America, Great Britain, mainland Europe, Australasia, as well as here at home in Estonia.

As students step into their high school journey, we equip them with the tools they need to thrive. One of the first steps is completing a Learning Style Inventory, which helps them uncover their unique strengths and challenges—both inside and outside the classroom—and turn that self-knowledge into clear academic goals and lasting success.

To help students discover their strengths and passions, they begin the year with a Career Interest Survey that highlights possible academic and career pathways. Each student then meets one-on-one with the University and Careers Counsellor (UCC) to explore options and set goals for both high school and beyond. In Grade 10, personalized course recommendations are provided in the spring, ensuring students are supported in reaching their aspirations. Throughout the year, students and their families are invited to attend university information sessions and presentations from visiting universities, offering a first look at exciting opportunities ahead.

Our UCC works closely with students and their families to guide academic planning and support the university application process. In Grade 11, students participate in a series of group seminars beginning in the spring semester and continuing into the first semester of Grade 12.

Individual meetings are also scheduled as needed to provide personalized guidance. Students receive advice on required admissions tests, with some students beginning their tests – depending on university requirements – in the spring of Grade 11.

Parent information sessions are offered throughout the year, and both students and parents are encouraged to connect with visiting university representatives to gain first-hand insights into admissions and campus life.
