Dean of Students | English as a Additional Language Teacher

Mr. Valerian Goguadze is an experienced English as an Additional Language (EAL) teacher and Dean of Students from the Republic of Georgia. A strong advocate of translanguaging, he values students’ full linguistic repertoires as assets in their learning journey, fostering inclusive environments that build on their strengths rather than deficits.

With 17 years of experience, Mr. Goguadze holds a PhD in Leadership Studies from the University of San Diego, where his research focused on how inquiry-based classrooms in International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP) schools support multilingual learners through translanguaging strategies. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in English Language and Literature, a Master’s in e-Governance Technologies, and a teaching qualification in English as a Foreign Language.

He began his career with the “Teach for Georgia” initiative, where he was selected to teach English in Georgian public schools. Since then, he has developed EAL programs for international schools that integrate multilingual approaches to language acquisition.

Originally from Batumi, a coastal town in Georgia, Mr. Goguadze now resides in Tallinn, Estonia. Fluent in Georgian, English, and Russian, he enjoys learning languages, volunteering, reading, cooking, travelling, and swimming.
