Programming is the process of taking an algorithm and encoding it into a notation, a programming language, so that it can be executed by a computer. Although many programming languages and many different types of computers exist, the important first step is the need to have the solution.In order to introduce students to computational thinking and the notion of programming, we offer a programming club for students from Reception-Grade 8.In the MYP Programming Club, we take advantage of online platforms such as Coodecademy and w3schools enroll in Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCS), and utilize various applications that are able to provide us with deeper knowledge and understanding of computational thinking, with hands-on coding activities.
This Club aims to build on students’ self-directed learning skills, introduce them to appropriate resources and encourage their interest for coding.
In the PYP Programming Club, we utilize various tools, from software such as Kodu Game Lab, to iPad applications, such as Tynker, that are based on Visual Programming Interfaces, allowing students to access and easily manipulate blocks.
This Club aims to introduce students to computational thinking, through games and the sense of play. We have fun while developing our critical thinking and problem solving skills.
