They can be used for individual study or classroom instruction, for researching, accessing online databases, working with various software programs, and to search the full ISE library collection. There are two additional standalone workstations in the library. Students and teachers can also use the library’s laser printer and photocopier.

The librarian is actively engaged in connecting with the teachers; she is an integral part of the teaching team, coordinating curriculum support and managing resources. The librarian is guided by a written selection policy in selecting materials. The teaching staff is consulted for assistance in developing the collections in the area(s) of their expertise.

The collections of the ISE library are developed with the teaching program in mind. The ISE library has 10,000+ volumes on hand. Carefully selected library materials are a cumulative enrichment to the learning environment. The ISE library collection is available to the entire school population.

The Upper School and Lower School areas contain the fiction collection including a range of leisure reading books, from teenage popular fiction to attractive editions of modern and older classics. Beautiful picture books are introduced and enjoyed during story time with our very youngest students.

The ISE library was fully renovated during the summer of 2007. The result is a modern facility with areas for younger and older students, as well as for quiet reading or individual learning. In spring 2009, the Library Media Center was named The Sharon Sperry Library “the heart of school” to recognize her support in developing the library into a contemporary learning environment during her years, 2004-2009, as ISE Director.

The Library Media Centre is open for student, parent, and staff use during the school day. There is also a schedule of weekly library-information studies classes. Teachers may book the library for class research or instruction. Students can use the library individually before and after school and during the breaks for homework.
